Teacher: Miss Fisher
Learning Assistants: Mrs Kodituwakku, Mrs Lowen and Mrs Warren
Welcome to 0MF Class. We believe that children’s development is the most important thing of all. Because of this we believe that learning through play is crucial for children developing well. Our day is spent primarily with children learning through Continuous Provision (the opportunity to play with available resources within the class) with interactions from our highly skilled teachers and staff.
Children have formal sessions too which focus on phonics (the building blocks for reading and writing) and maths. These sessions are very short at the start of the year and gradually increase as the year progresses. We believe that our approach develops happy, inquisitive and resilient learners.
- Phonics is taught using Sounds Write.
- Our handwriting is taught using Kinetic Letters.

Phonics teaching begins almost immediately in September. Initially children will come home with key rings of the key phonemes (sounds) that they have learned at school. As they progress they will begin to bring home reading books. We believe that the most important thing is that children bring home reading books when they are ready. Pushing them too soon can have negative impact on their love and development of reading.
